Archival Site from 2013

On the weekend of June 1st, 2013, web and software developers, designers, community organizers, and other folks from all over Western Mass gathered to tackle local challenges with technology. And we’re just getting started.

Think Globally, Hack Locally

Hack for Western Mass was one of over 90 events happening nationwide as part of the National Day of Civic Hacking. The National Day of Civic Hacking is an event during which citizens from around the country work together with local, state and federal governments as well as private sector organizations with the common goal of improving their community.

Hack for Western Mass is also licensed under Random Hacks of Kindness, an organization started by Microsoft, Yahoo, and NASA, and the World Bank to run hackathons around the world.

What’s next?

Stay in touch!

We really hope to continue the momentum of this weekend, and find more opportunities to bring people together to create awesome projects that make our community better. Join this Google group to continue collaborating and to watch for announcements about future events.

Share your story.

Did you take photos? Add them to our flickr pool! Like to write? Post on our blog about the weekend. Did you develop a project? Put it on GitHub.

Submit your projects and stories to show the national Hack for Change organizers that Western Mass has world-class civic hackers. Submitting also gives you a chance to be featured on hackforchange.org and to score an invitation to the White House in July.

Come to the follow-up event on June 26th at 7pm.
This is an opportunity to show off post-hackathon progress. We’ll gather for an informal showcase of the latest and greatest project developments. Location TBA.
